Somos el Futuro
A clothesline of identity. Hispanic Heritage Month.
A papel picado-inspired door where students clip their own heritage tiles — words, traditions, foods, values — creating a display as diverse as the students themselves.
What's inside
Somos el Futuro ('We Are the Future') rejects the idea of a single Hispanic or Latino identity. Using a papel picado aesthetic — colorful panels clipped to yarn like a clothesline — every student in the class contributes a tile representing their own heritage or something they genuinely admire from a culture different from their own. The result is never the same twice. Teachers can include country identification challenge to keep students coming back to the board! The display works for any classroom, not only those with majority Latino enrollment.
